I'm a technical professional with love of superhero comics. I wrote the majority of my first published comic in 2015. I decided that I wanted to take on the personal challenge of bringing traditional superhero comics to life.

The Sentinels #5 (Jul 1962)

“Enter — EMULEX!”

In this issue, the Planet’s Ultimate Super-Heroes encounter a new foe, the android Emulex, who can duplicate all their powers.

As is often the case, a mad scientist developed a killer android/robot with the ability to absorb over time the powers of other beings.

Emulex needs to be in proximity to his victim to absorb their powers, so he is placed in a coffin like box at a scientific event in Sterling City which the Sentinels have been invited to attend. Also on hand is resident science whiz, Jill Trent, the Science Sleuth and her friend, Daisy.

While the Sentinels study him, he slowly absorbs their powers, leaving them all mysteriously weakened.

Eventually upon taking enough of their powers, he bursts free, attacking the team! The heroes, however, still retain some of their powers, making their teamwork the deciding factor in the battle, eventually defeating the giant machine-parasite, with help from Jill.

The mad scientist, who is unnamed in the story, escapes, only to return later (The Sentinels #11) and be revealed as Dr. Micro!

“The Planet’s Ultimate Super-Heroes Do Battle With the Mighty CYBORILLA!”

The Simian Savant, Cyborilla, attacked the United Nations building in New York, in an attempt to take over the world…by due process. At least in his mind it was. Five heroes responded to the call: Nelvana, who was coincidentally at the UN to plead for fair treatment of the Inuit population of the north; TNT Todd, also there, but in his guise as an FBI agent; Man o’ Metal, investigating a case; Hydroman, who was attending a nearby scientific demonstration with the final member of the team, Magno. The Sentinels formed in response to the threat. With the immediate threat removed, the team decided to continue to operate together.

FLAG

Jim Courtney was found as an infant on the doorstep of John “Old Glory” Courtney, a crippled war veteran and flag maker, June 14, 1920 (Flag Day). John discovered that Jim had an American flag birthmark on his chest. On his 21st birthday, Jim was visited by the apparent spirits of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and told that he had “the speed of the wind and the strength of a 100 men” as well as invulnerability to all weapons.

SORĉISTINO

Overjoyed with having a child, her parents raised her to be confident and assertive, which helped lay the groundwork for her successes later in life.

Her genetic predisposition to magic first manifested at a young age.

Wanting to understand and master her abilities, she sought out any information on magic she could, eventually coming to Miskatonic University in Arkham, Massachusetts where she enrolled in the much derided “Occult Studies” degree program. Combining this with studies in the library, she learned everything she could about sorcery, practicing with her growing abilities to attain a mastery surpassing her wildest dreams.

Sorĉistino is a member of the Mighty Guardians.

Originally donated by the US Government to World War II superhero team, the Freedom Brigade, Freedom’s Stronghold has become the default base for the country’s preeminent superhero team, The Sentinels.

Ghost Guardian possesses several psionic powers which appear to have been specifically designed to increase her stealth ability, aiding her in combat through combination of several otherwise low-level abilities

GENERAL STEEL

A forceful, dynamic man, Steel is a natural leader. He sees the humor in life, and, although his attitude briefly soured after the murder of his family, he has never let it overwhelm him.

Jack Steel was mortally wounded by a German shell at the Battle of El Alamein (1942). A strange scientist took him to a hidden cave laboratory and injected the “elixir of life” into the dying soldier, reviving Steel and giving him superhuman abilities. Steel had no idea where he was born or what his true nationality was, therefore, he considered himself a champion of all nations against Dictatorships.

Steel remains a powerful force for good, while serving as an inspirational figure to other, even the Planet’s Ultimate Super-Heroes.

JILL TRENT

A no-nonsense person, Jill is pragmatic and inventive, a true lateral thinker. She is able to synthesize data from multiple sources and use them to develop solutions to abstruse problems. She is adept at ‘on the fly’ thinking and problem solving. Somewhat sarcastic, she isn’t afraid to stand up for herself, even against super-villains, though, as a pragmatic person, she knows when to back down.

Early on, Trent was a female adventurer from Sterling City. She solved crimes through combination of her detective skills and scientific ingenuity, assisted by her best friend, Daisy Smythe. Both of them were quite capable of handling themselves in a fight, demonstrating proficiency with guns and some basic, but effective, fighting skills.

Throughout the years, Trent has acted as a scientific advisor to the Sentinels and other super-hero teams.
